On nice slow weekend mornings I have half-awakenings and reach for my phone to play some music to lull me back to sleep. Normally what happens is that I never pay full attention to the song and I fall back asleep for another refreshing sleep cycle.
On this particular morning I set a random playlist and the first song that came up caught my half-awake attention immediately.
Is there an art to letting go?

How do you make peace with a feeling you don’t understand?
How do you forget all you know?
Is there an art to letting go?
My half-awake attention heard the question “Is there an art to letting go?” The song felt like it was asking something aloud that I was questioning already and had struggled with in the past. Still half-awake, I listened as best as I could to the lyrics.
I don’t yet know how to make peace with a feeling I don’t understand, but I’m learning to move forward despite having it, one step at a time. I’m learning to set aside all that I’ve known and experienced and believe in a different way of making “progress”.
When you can say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
How do you say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
Be okay with that
I’m not sure I fully understand the question. My interpretation is how does one stop trying to fix something that can’t be fixed? Or how does one stop revisiting a past that can’t be altered? How do I let go and move forward despite the facts?
When was the last time that we had a talk that held any meaning?
Feels like a past life that we really felt something at all
There are small words or phrases that can move a life or lives forward in big ways. Then there are essays, videos, of words that leave one stagnant and in the same spot one started in.
When I try to say the meaningful things am I going to get it right?
How do you know when you’ve reached the end?
How does your heart break from your head?
There is no end to reach. The end reaches you.
To break the heart from the head it must be done all at once. There is no gentle approach. It is as scary as it is rewarding.
My Answer #
Yes, there is an art to letting go, but like art, there are no rules to this thing. A canvas might be one or two elements away from being a masterpiece and until they’re added it may come across as a shoddy piece of art. Once the elements are added the ability to let go suddenly becomes apparent.

[Verse 1]
When was the last time that we had a talk that held any meaning?
Feels like a past life that we really felt something at all
There’s a hole in us both that we can’t sew up ‘cause we cannot admit that we’re bleeding
Caught in a landslide, tryna climb faster than we fall
[Chorus]
How do you know when you’ve reached the end?
How does your heart break from your head?
How do you make peace with a feeling you don’t understand?
How do you forget all you know?
Is there an art to letting go?
When you can say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
How do you say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
Be okay with that
[Build]
How do you say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
[Drop]
How do you say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
[Verse 2]
This the first time I’ve seen from the bird’s eye the way that we’re broken
A million small fights can feel like a lifetime if you add ’em up
‘Cause we’re too intertwined, we compartmentalize but we want and we’ll bury what’s needed
Be okay with that
How do you say what’s dead is dead and be okay with that?
